PHOENIX -- A man is facing a DUI charge after driving his small pickup into the back of a gravel truck early Wednesday morning.
It happened on Seventh Avenue at Interstate 17, which is south of Buckeye Road. The Seventh Avenue ramp off of I-17 was closed for hours because of the crash.
According to police, the pickup ran a red light. Investigators believe the driver had been drinking.
"I just don't understand people making that choice to get behind the wheel and drive drunk, you know, and put everybody's life at risk out here," William Misicka, the driver of the gravel truck said. "It just doesn't make any sense with all the taxis we have out here why anybody would make that choice."
Misicka was not hurt in the collision.
The driver of the pickup, who reportedly was not wearing a seat belt, and his passenger were taken to a local hospital. Police say both of them should be fine.
Investigators have not released any information about the driver of the pickup truck.
