GLENDALE - Glendale police say a man went on a wild ride after a crime spree, but eventually police caught up with him.

Derek Laschansky, 29, is accused of stealing his brother's car, crashing into a light pole and then carjacking a customer at a convenience store.

Laschansky stands to be charged with auto theft and attempted armed robbery, among other felonies.

The crime spree started when the suspect reportedly stole a car from his brother in south Phoenix and crashed it into a light pole at a Quick Trip on 99th Avenue and Camelback Road.

He tried to get it started to drive away, but it was stuck, so police say he went up to a customer who was with his 2-year-old daughter and demanded he hand over the keys.

That victim gave him the keys and he and his daughter were safe and able to call police. In the meantime Laschansky reportedly drove off, then attempted to rob another person just north of the Quick Trip.

Police were finally able to catch up with him and was taken into custody where he will face numerous charges.
