PHOENIX – A United States citizen wanted in connection with a Phoenix homicide was arrested in Mexico Tuesday evening.

Mexican authorities apprehended Jesus Ruiz-Hernandez in Benjamin Hill, Sonora.

Ruiz-Hernandez was transferred to the custody of U.S. law enforcement at the Nogales port of entry and is being held at the Santa Cruz County Jail, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

Ruiz-Hernandez was sought in an Aug. 25 shooting during a botched robbery at an apartment where several people were staying. He reportedly believed there were illegal narcotics and other items of value inside the apartment near 55th Avenue and Indian School Road.

According to the U.S. Marshals Service, Ruiz-Hernandez attempted to enter the apartment and fired a handgun at the occupants. A man in his 20s was struck several times and died at the scene.
