CORDES LAKES, Ariz. – A man suspected of stealing copper wire from light poles in Cordes Lakes is in custody in Maricopa County where he is accused of similar crimes.
Detectives from the Phoenix Police Department contacted the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office and identified Ronald Lee Moore, 25, as a possible suspect in the theft. Copper wire was taken from more than 20 light poles along the on-ramp to southbound Interstate 17 from state Route 69 in early February.
Moore is accused of wire theft in the Phoenix area and is in custody at the Maricopa County Jail.
YCSO detectives discovered Moore had recently sold wire to a scrap metal dealer that was an exact match to the wire stolen from the light poles. Detectives also linked Moore to a theft of wire from light poles along Highway 69 in Cordes Junction in October.
YCSO spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn said the total loss from both incidents exceeds $30,000.
A Yavapai County arrest warrant will be served immediately upon Moore's release from custody in Maricopa County.
D'Evelyn said the investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are probable.
