TEMPE, Ariz. -- A man was arrested Friday after an alleged crime spree that ended with him jumping from a freeway bridge.

Police said the man stole a car in Tempe, robbed an adult video store in Mesa, and led police on a chase on Loop 202.

The man allegedly approached a woman at a shopping center near Loop 202 and McClintock Drive on Thursday night, claiming he was a security guard and ordering her to get out of her car, according to the woman's boyfriend.

The boyfriend said he witnessed the confrontation from inside a nearby store.

When the woman questioned the man, he reportedly flashed a pink Taser at her and stole her car.

The man then reportedly visited an adult video store in East Mesa around 2:30 a.m. and purchased a private viewing room.

He left the store, but later returned and allegedly attacked the clerk with the Taser.

The clerk, Timothy Lynn, said he tried to fight off the man with a stool and dodge items the man allegedly threw at him.

Lynn said the man left with the cash register, which contained about $150. Lynn then called 911.

Police said the man then led officers on a high-speed chase along Loop 202, and they stopped him using "stop sticks."

The driver then fled the vehicle and jumped off the eight-story-tall bridge. He was found on the ground near a water retention area and was transported to a hospital.

Tempe police said the man is still alive. They are not yet releasing his name because they are still conducting photo lineups.

The incident backed up traffic on the freeway Thursday morning.
