Suspect arrested in Phoenix police officer shooting

PHOENIX -- Officials have released the name of the man arrested after a Phoenix police officer was shot early Saturday morning.  Joseph Sandoval faces aggravated assault charges, as well as weapons and parole violations.

The shooting happened at around 1 a.m. Saturday morning near 30th and Van Buren streets.  Police say officers were responding to a trespassing call when Sandoval reportedly opened fire. One of the officers was shot several times.

The officer was taken to the hospital where we underwent surgery and is reportedly in stable condition.
