PHOENIX – Police have arrested a suspect in the stabbing death of a 25-year-old man at a Phoenix home early Tuesday morning.

Francisco Gutierrez, 21, is facing one count of second-degree murder.

After speaking with witnesses, police learned that Gutierrez had gone to the home in the area of Maryland and 35th avenues with his girlfriend, who was the ex-girlfriend of a resident at the home.

Detectives said Gutierrez wanted to fight with the ex-boyfriend and, instead, Alec Imus stepped in and a confrontation ensued.

Imus was stabbed during the confrontation then Gutierrez and his girlfriend fled the area.

Imus' friends took him to a local hospital where he later was pronounced dead.

Gutierrez was later found by detectives, interviewed and booked into jail.
