PHOENIX -- A Surprise man accused of forcing his sons to drink alcohol has been sentenced to three years' probation for child abuse.
Kristopher Harvey, 33, was arrested last June after police found his underage sons were highly intoxicated.
The boys, who were 12 and 13 at the time, were visiting from out of state and drank some of their father's alcohol. When Harvey found out, he decided to teach them a lesson and made them take shots of hard liquor then threw them in the pool, according to court documents.
A neighbor called police after hearing screaming and crying coming from the backyard.
Harvey told police that he wanted to teach his children the effects of drinking irresponsibly and described the incident as "the biggest mistake of my life."
Harvey pleaded guilty to one count of child abuse in December and was sentenced Wednesday in a plea agreement.
