PHOENIX -- Do you have what it takes to cheer for our Phoenix Suns? It's time for Suns Dancer auditions once again this weekend.
On Tuesday's Good Morning Arizona, Suns Dancers Manager Taryn Carmichael explained that they're looking for more than just plain talent. "We're looking for confidence, enthusiasm, skill and personality to pump up our crowd," says Carmichael.
Auditions for the 2013-14 Suns Dancers will begin on August 17 at the Downtown Phoenix Convention Center (100 N. Third St., Phoenix). Registration starts at 8:00 a.m.
The audition will begin with dancers learning two sideline routines. All performers will then learn the audition routine. Dancers will perform the routine in small groups for the judges. A first cut will then be made.
Those dancers moving on will then perform the routine again, as well as freestyle for the judges. A second cut will be made at the end of the day. Dancers advancing to the second round will be asked to return on Sunday, Aug. 18.
A two-day training camp for finalists will follow, with finals held on Saturday, August 24. The 2013-14 Suns Dancers will be announced on Wednesday, August 28.
Candidates are asked to bring a completed registration form to the audition along with a resume and head shot (which will not be returned). Anyone looking for additional information or to register can visit Suns.com.
Hopefuls can also take a prep class Tuesday night to get ready for the audition. Registration is at 6:00 p.m., and the clinic will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The cost is $50. The prep class will be held at US Airways Center on the Practice Court. That's at 201 E. Jefferson Street in Phoenix.
"It kind of gives the individual some tips and tricks about what's going to happen," says Carmichael.
