GLENDALE, Ariz. -- A Glendale high school student is being recognized for a pretty big achievement! He's had perfect attendance for 13 years: from pre-K through his senior year. That's right; he never missed a single day of school.

Darryl Richards will graduate from Glendale High School on May 29. And his mom, Roxane, couldn't be more proud of her boy. "He was so positive," says Roxane Richards. "He said, 'Mom, it's okay. I've still got to go to school.' So I don't even have to say anything; he just motivates himself to get up and do it."

We asked the senior what helped him score that perfect attendance record. He listed two top things. "My mom, and motivation," he told 3TV. "A lot of people miss school. But I like to be here."

Darryl did more than come to school every day. He was a busy kid, riding BMX bikes. and playing football, soccer, volleyball and baseball and over the last four years. He's also been working at IHOP for the past two years.

His mom tells us that nothing stood in the way of Darryl coming to school day after day, even when he was hit by a car, and then when he was the victim of a random beating.

"I'm very proud of him," says his mom. "He always maintains a very positive attitude, always has a good day, and I don't have any problems with him motivating himself and getting going."

Darryl is now ready to look to the future. He hopes to get a business degree from Glendale Community College. He also plans to go into law enforcement.

Way to go, Darryl!
