PRESCOTT, Ariz. -- Crews have rescued a 70-year-old Casa Grande man who became stranded while hiking a northern Arizona canyon with Boy Scouts.
The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office says Ken Barnum, his son and another teen were airlfited Sunday from the West Clear Creek area, several miles east of Camp Verde.
Sheriff's spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn says Barnum was unable to hike out of the canyon due to cardiac issues, and his son and the teen chose to stay with him overnight.
D'Evelyn says rescuers had to wait for daylight.
Two others were also stranded overnight but returned to base camp Sunday morning without injury.
Barnum was transported to Verde Valley Medical Center.
Authorities say a total of four adults and eight teens were reported missing around 3 p.m. Saturday after they failed to show up at a meeting spot.
Deputies and the Arizona Department of Public Safety found the group three hours later. Seven of the hikers were able to walk out safely Saturday night while the other five stayed until morning.
The troop is based out of the town of Maricopa.
