BUCKEYE, Ariz. -- A raid of a Buckeye smoke shop netted 45 vials of suspected "spice" for sale and one arrest, police said.
Buckeye police detectives executed a search warrant Tuesday on Hot 7 Smoke Shop on Monroe Avenue near Seventh Street.
Police arrested the cashier working at the time, 32-year-old Buckeye resident Veronica Braga, on suspicion of possession of a dangerous drug for sale and possession of a dangerous drug for sale in a drug-free school zone, both of which are class four felonies. The smoke shop is less than 300 feet from Buckeye Elementary School.
Police began investigating the business in early January after receiving information that store clerks were allegedly selling the synthetic drug to high school students and adults.
Spice is classified as a dangerous drug under Arizona Revised Statuses. Spice and other synthetic drugs contain chemical compounds that produce an effect similar to marijuana, cocaine and methamphetamine.
