SPRINGERVILLE, Ariz. (AP) -- A pre-evacuation notice for the southeast Eagar area is out because of high winds and possible spot fires Thursday afternoon.
Residents are asked to prepare to move out of the area if notified by law enforcement. Authorities have not been advised of a specific time frame for moving residents.
The joint information system says the Round Valley Intermediate School will be open for residents in the affected area as a temporary location for stand-by. If long term arrangements are needed residents will be notified at the school.
The Wallow fire became the largest in state history Wednesday, exceeding a 2002 fire that burned 732 square miles, or 469,000 acres, and destroyed 491 buildings. Though larger in size, the latest fire has destroyed 32 homes and four rental cabins.
