PAYSON, Ariz. (AP) -- A small plane that went missing Tuesday evening while traveling from Show Low to Payson has been located.

Gila County Deputies along with the Arizona Department of Public Safety found the wreckage of the plane in the Mazatzal Wilderness.

Authorities said one body was located and tentatively identified as pilot Davd Kappes. DNA tests will be required to fully identify the body.

Gila River Sheriff's officials say a state Department of Public Safety helicopter out of Phoenix first spotted the wreckage about 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor says the pilot of the twin-engine Piper PA31 radioed air traffic controllers that he was diverting to Phoenix because of bad weather near Payson on Tuesday night.

Controllers lost radio and radar contact with the plane when it was about 50 miles east of Phoenix at about 8:30 p.m.
