PAULDEN, Ariz. – Four people are dead after a small plane crashed in Paulden, Ariz., Friday afternoon.

The six-passenger Cessna 340 went down on the Gunsite firearms training academy property at about 12:30 p.m., according to the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office.

YCSO spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn said witnesses saw the plane clip some trees and then appeared to explode on impact.

Some witnesses also indicated the plane may have struck a radio tower on the Gunsite grounds.

Authorities said four people were killed in the crash.

The plane departed Bullhead City in northwestern Arizona earlier Friday. D'Evelyn said initial reports indicate the plane was expected to land at the Prescott Airport and those on board were scheduled to arrive at Gunsite later in the day.

Investigators have not determined why the aircraft was in the area over Gunsite prior to arrival at the airport.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the cause of the crash.

The identities of the victims have not been confirmed at this time.
