PHOENIX -- Police are searching for the person who fired the bullet that hit a woman while she was asleep in her bedroom.

It happened just before midnight at the Biltmore on the Lake Apartment near Interstate 17 and Peoria Avenue.

Police received several 911 calls regarding shots fired in the area Thursday evening. Responding to a call that came in shortly before midnight, officers found a woman who had been wounded.

According to Phoenix police Lt. Tom Van Dorn, a bullet had come through the woman's bedroom window, hitting her as she slept. At last check, she was in stable condition, expected to make a full recovery.

Investigators do not believe the woman was the target. She had only lived at Biltmore on the Lake for a week.

No suspects were found at the scene and detectives do not have any information about the shooter.

Under Shannon's Law, randomly firing a weapon within city limits is a felony offense.
