PHOENIX -- Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport opened a new exhibition featuring Mexican art.

“Friends of Mexican Art celebrate 50 Years of Collecting and Giving” highlights more than 60 pieces of art in the Terminal 4 Gallery on level 3 through February 23, 2014.

The works of art come from a collaboration between the Phoenix Airport Museum and The Friends of Mexican Art (FOMA), a local nonprofit that focuses on collecting pieces by Mexican artists.

“The Phoenix Airport Museum is honored to partner with FOMA and display this exhibition of Mexican art and culture,” said Lennée Eller, museum curator. “FOMA members are ardent and passionate ambassadors of Mexican art and we love sharing their art with the public.”

The art at Sky Harbor’s exhibition came from FOMA members’ private collections and works FOMA donated to the Phoenix Art Museum, Arizona State University Art Museum and the Heard Museum.

The Terminal 4 Gallery displays works of art including paintings, sculptures and prints from famous Mexican artists such as Orozco, Tamayo, Siqueiros and Zuniga.

Level 2 of Sky Harbors Terminal 4 is also featuring some art. One display case holds ceramic folk art from the Heard Museum, and the other case contains folk art pieces from personal collections of FOMA members. The Level 2 display cases will remain on exhibit through March 16, 2014.
