Oscar makes stop in Phoenix on its road trip to Academy Awards

PHOENIX -- It is no easy task to win an Oscar let alone see one up close, but now you have the chance when the golden statuette tours the nation, making a stop here in Phoenix along the way.

The statuette started in New York City on Feb. 4 and continued its journey, making stops in Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Chicago, St. Louis, Kansas City, Mo., Houston, Dallas and Phoenix.

Valley residents can see the trophy when it makes a stop at Desert Stages Theatre located at 4720 N. Scottsdale Road. The statue will be there on Thursday, Feb. 21, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences says the golden statuette will visit at least 10 cities before arriving at the Academy Awards in Hollywood Feb. 24.

Fans can follow the trophy on its journey and even suggest stops by going online.

Those who go to see the statuette can also pose for photos.
