SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- A Scottsdale couple are heartbroken after an urn containing their son's ashes was stolen from their home near 68th Street and McDowell Road.
Debbie Schelske and her husband came home Wednesday morning to find their house had been robbed.
They called 911 and after police checked the home, they let the couple go back inside to see what was missing.
"The first thing we did was go look for that urn because it does look like a jewelry box and then we noticed several jewelry boxes of mine were missing and gone through and jewelry was missing, and we looked for Cole's urn and that was gone," Schelske said.
That urn contained the ashes of her son Cole, who would have been 21 now. He died a little more than a year ago from a severe allergic reaction to medication.
Schelske said losing Cole's ashes is like losing him all over again. She's pleading with those who took it to do the right thing.
"We don't care about any jewelry, the gun that was taken, we just want the urn back because that had our son's ashes in it and he just died a year ago July 5," Schelske said.
The urn also a contained a few of Cole's personal items as well as a strand of hair that Schelske kept in plastic.
"It's really important because that's all I have left of my son," Schelske said.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Scottsdale Police Department.
