SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Scottsdale police are searching for a man who robbed a Wells Fargo Bank Wednesday afternoon.

Police officers responded to an armed robbery call at the bank branch inside a Safeway store near Hayden and Chaparral roads shortly before 4 p.m.

Sgt. Ben Hoster said the suspect approached the counter, pointed a black handgun at a teller and verbally demanded money.

After obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect walked out of the store and fled in a dark-colored four-door sedan.

The suspect is described as a white or Hispanic male, 5 feet 8 inches tall with a "chubby build," clean shaven, 35 to 40 years old with short hair or a shaved head.

He was wearing a dark-colored baseball cap with a red logo, a light blue short-sleeved polo-style shirt with dark blue horizontal stripes, dark pants and dark-colored shoes. He was carrying a black laptop bag.

Investigators believe the suspect may also be responsible for a robbery on Nov. 30, 2010, at the Chase Bank located at 2020 E. McKellips Road in Mesa.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to contact police at 480-312-5000 or the FBI at 623-466-1999. Anonymous tips can be left at tipsoft.com.
