CHANDLER, Ariz. – The tradition of Oktoberfest may have started in Germany, but you don’t have to travel to Europe to enjoy the same festivities.
The 6th annual SanTan Brewing Oktoberfest takes places Saturday, Oct. 5, 4 p.m.- midnight, in Chandler. The event coincides with SanTan Brewery’s 6th anniversary.
“We’re really excited about it, to be serving fresh local beer made about 100 feet from where you’re standing right now, made fresh every day,” said Anthony Canecchia, owner of SanTan Brewing Company. “It’s a celebration that we coincide with the Munich Oktoberfest in Germany that’s so famous and has been around for 200 plus years.”
The SanTan Brewing Oktoberfest will offer authentic German food, live entertainment, local vendors, games and craft beer. The event is also family-oriented, so children are welcome to attend.
“Some of us are doing a little bit of an Arizona take on some of the Germany-style food,” Canecchia said. “We’ve got a Sonoran dog that uses a traditional German brat except it’s got a little bit of jalapeño in there and then some guacamole and a little pico de gallo. We’re making it Arizona style because we’re not in Munich.”
SanTan will have an Oktoberfest lager in honor of the event.
The Oktoberfest costs $10 for general admission, and is free for children 12 and younger.
The event is located at Three S. Arizona Ave. in Chandler.
