PHOENIX -- Phoenix now ranks among the best cities in the country to open the doors of a small business, according to a nationwide study.
The National Federation of Independent Business ranks Phoenix as one of the five best in the nation for welcoming small businesses.
The study applauded Phoenix for having incentives like 24-hour permitting, which allows small businesses to turn around projects faster, and therefore, open their doors more easily.
It also pointed to the high number of transplants in the city. With so many people moving here from other places, it eliminates the "good ol' boy" climate that can stifle newcomers in other cities.
"Arizona really is the wild west," said Farrell Quinlan, director of the National Federation of Independent Business in Phoenix. "If you have a great idea and you’re willing to work hard and start a business, you’ve got a really good shot of making it work here."
