PHOENIX -- A strong cold front is still on track to enter Arizona on Thursday afternoon and bring increasing rain and snow showers to the state. Rainfall totals around the Valley will most likely be around 1/2 inch, though some areas may get more than that. And in the highest elevations of the mountains, we expect more than a foot of snow.

For sure, this will be the first major storm of the season and will bring deteriorating travel conditions on Thursday and Friday.

The high in the Valley Tuesday was 69. We expect Wednesday and Thursday to be in the low 70s before the cold front moves in Thursday night. On Friday, with scattered showers expected throughout the day, highs will only be in the 50s.

If the rain comes as forecast, it will be the first significant rain since the summer thunderstorm season. It’s been that long since we've had a decent rain.
