PRESCOTT VALLEY – A Prescott Valley man was arrested after a 7-hour standoff with police Friday.

Police were called to the home in the 4300 block of Romero Circle East at approximately 3:30 a.m. by a woman claiming shots had been fired in a domestic disturbance.

When officers arrived they were able to remove the woman from the home. The suspect, identified as Rafael Real Olivas Ampano, barricaded himself in the residence. Members of the Prescott Valley Police Special Response Team made multiple attempts to contact him but were unsuccessful.

The Prescott Police SWAT Team was called to the scene, and several homes around the area were evacuated as a precaution. Police used diversionary devices and O.C. gas canisters in their efforts to end the standoff.

Ampano was arrested just before 11 a.m. and booked into the Yavapai County Jail in Camp Verde on charges of aggravated assault, endangerment, disorderly conduct and two weapons charges.

Ampano, who admitted to being in the country illegally, provided different dates of birth to police, and is believed to be 19-21 years old.

A handgun was found in the home. No one was injured during the standoff.
