Map: Sexual assault
PHOENIX - Phoenix police are searching for a suspect they believe kidnapped and raped a 14-year-old girl.
Police say the man asked the teen for directions in the area of 16th Street and Union Hills Drive, at approximately 5 p.m. on Dec. 17.
The suspect was able to get the victim into his car, and drove her to the area of Grovers and 19th avenues. That's where he sexually assaulted her, according to police. He then dropped her off in the area of Ninth Street and Union Hills Drive.
Neighbors say they're very concerned.
"It is scary. There are a lot of young kids all over. There are schools, parks, day cares," one neighbor told 3TV.
"That poor girl," says another. "She has to live with this for the rest of her life. She'll never forget it."
One mom tells us she keeps a close eye on her daughter.
"I walk her to school myself every single day," Loni Duquett said.
The suspect is described as white, 25 to 35 years old, with a medium build, brown hair, trimmed beard and mustache. Police released surveillance photos taken of the suspect prior to the assault.
The suspect was last seen in a green, newer model four-door car.
"It's insane," an area residents said. "I hope they catch him. That could happen to anybody."
Silent Witness is offering a $1,000 reward for information. Anyone with information about the suspect can call 480-WITNESS (948-6377) or 1-800-343-TIPS (8477).
