Teen suspect in custody in connection with officer-involved shooting

PHOENIX - A 16-year-old boy is after allegedly pointing a gun at a Phoenix police officer.

Police were called out to the area of 55th and Campbell avenues at about 7:30 Wednesday evening. Neighbors reported shots fired and people fighting.

According to Officer Luis Samudio, two people involved in the altercation ran from police. One was apprehended, but the other ran into an alley. The person, later identified as Eduardo Gonzalez, 16, allegedly pointed a gun at an officer. That officer fired several times, but the teen made is over the wall.

Police searched the area for nearly three hours, finally located Gonzalez. Investigators said the teen suffered a graze wound to his leg.

Gonzalez was booked into the Maricopa County Juvenile Center on an aggravated assault charge.

No officers were injured in the incident.

As is standard in any officer-involved shooting, the incident is under investigation and the officer who fired his weapon, a veteran with 8 1/2 years on the force, has been placed on administrative leave.
