MESA, Ariz. -- Investigators are on the scene of a homicide in a Mesa neighborhood.

Officers were called to the area of Barkley and Broadway Road, which is east of Stapley Drive shortly before 6 a.m. Thursday after somebody reported a person lying on a sidewalk.

"The subject was obviously injured so that's why they called us," Sgt. Tony Landato of the Mesa Police Department told 3TV's Tess Rafols.

The Mesa Fire Department pronounced that person, a Hispanic adult male, dead at the scene. He has not been identified.

"There was obvious trauma to the body of a suspicious nature," Landato said, although he did not elaborate.

A bike was near the man's body, but detectives have not determined if it belonged to him.

While it's early in the investigation, Landato said that there's no obvious indication that a vehicle hit the man and then left the scene.

Detectives are treating the case as a homicide. They expected to be on the scene for most of the day.

If you have any information about the man or what happened to him, please call the Mesa Police Department at 480-644-2211, option 2.
