TEMPE, Ariz. -- Tempe police said there was nothing of concern inside a cardboard box found in the roadway near Spence Avenue and Newberry Lane Friday morning.
Lt. Scott Smith said the package was reported to police by a passerby.
Tempe police bomb technicians investigated and cleared the package.
Tempe police confirmed to 3TV that the box in the image above is the "suspicious package" they investigated. They opened the box and nothing was inside.
Police do not know where the box came from or how it was left in the road.
During the investigation, Tempe police and fire units cordoned off and evacuated the immediate area as a precaution. Everyone has been allowed back into their homes and traffic restrictions were lifted.
