BUCKEYE, Ariz. -- Police are investigating a fatal shooting in Buckeye.
It occurred in the area of Maricopa 85 and Apache Road.
Witnesses said they heard four gunshots and saw a man lying on the ground outside a Circle K. He reportedly appeared to be bleeding from his head.
"It sounded like wood being smacked together," said Lorenzo Sanchez, who was in the Circle K parking lot at the time of the shooting. "It sounded like a very small, like a .22, gun."
Witnesses also said the shooter fled in the tow truck the man was driving, but police have not confirmed that.
"How horrible," said Eusavia Pena, who was also at Circle K. "What a horrible way to die; doing your job to die.
The suspect reportedly left the scene in a tow truck with a car on it.
According Officer Tamela Skaggs of the Buckeye Police Department, the tow truck and car were later found at a home in Rainbow Valley, which is a little more and 20 miles, about a 35-minute drive, southeast of the scene in Buckeye.
