PHOENIX -- A man in his late 50's was taken to the hospital after police say he was shot inside a home near 16th Street and Union Hills Drive at about 2 a.m. Thursday.
Police also have one person in custody, who they are calling a possible suspect.
A large portion of the neighborhood was blocked off with a heavy police presence until about 7 a.m.
There was another scene about a block or two away from the home, where an officer was guarding evidence connected to this case. There appeared to be a backpack and pair of scissors in the middle of the road.
According to officers on scene, a man made his way into a home with several people inside. People in the home claim they did not know the suspect but for some reason, he started fighting with the man who ended up getting shot. Within minutes, the suspect pulled out his gun and shot the victim before he fled.
The people in the home provided police with a decent description of the suspect's car.
A few miles away from the home, police located a car that matched that description. That driver is now the person in custody, currently being questioned.
The victim is expected to recover.
