PHOENIX -- Police say a woman who was hit by a truck and killed might have been impaired.

It happened just before 9 p.m. Friday on 91st Avenue south of Broadway Road on the east side of the Tres Rios Wetlands.

According to Sgt. Steve Martos of the Phoenix Police Department, a Ford F150 heading south on 91st Avenue near the river bottom hit a woman who was either walking or standing in the roadway.

"The pedestrian is believed to have been impaired and may have been attempting to walk home in the dark when she was struck," Martos said in an email to media outlets.

The victim has been identified as Jeanette Lyons.

The 21-year-old was rushed to a local hospital where doctors pronounced her dead.

The driver of the pickup, a 39-year-old man, remained at the scene and was evaluated by officers. They do not think he was impaired at the time of the wreck. He was not injured.

At this point, no charges have been filed.
