CHANDLER, Ariz. -- A small plane made a hard landing at Chandler Municipal Airport after it lost power Monday morning.

Chandler Fire Department Battalion Chief Brad Miller said the biplane was coming in for a landing when it lost power for some reason. The aircraft landed short of the runway and came to a stop in the dirt.

The pilot was not injured, but his plane will need some repairs.

The landing gear was smashed, there was some damage to the wings and the propeller was bent, according to Miller.

The pilot, whose name was not released, was the only person onboard.

"He got out on his own and walked away from it so it's relatively good news," Miller said. "He's a lucky man."

There is no word on what caused the plane's problems.
