FLORENCE, Ariz. (AP) -- Authorities have arrested a San Tan Valley man accused of strangling his live-in girlfriend during an argument.
Pinal County Sheriff's deputies say 36-year-old Westley Burdine was arrested Monday and booked into a Florence jail after his girlfriend reported the incident at a sheriff's substation.
The 34-year-old victim told deputies Burdine allegedly grabbed her by the throat and strangled her for five seconds.
The victim says she retreated to a master bedroom and Burdine followed.
Authorities say Burdine pushed her onto her back and strangled her again, to the point where she lost consciousness.
Deputies say the victim's injuries are consistent with strangulation and she has since been treated at a hospital.
Burdine has been charged with aggravated assault and domestic violence.
