PHOENIX – Police have arrested a man suspected of stealing three AR-15 rifles from a Wal-Mart store in Phoenix early Friday morning.

After releasing surveillance photos on Monday, Phoenix police received tips from the public identifying Daniel Justin Miranda, 46, as the suspect in the theft from the Wal-Mart at Bell Road and 19th Avenue, according to Officer James Holmes.

Holmes said Miranda is a transient.

Police set up surveillance in the area where Miranda was known to frequent and took him into custody near Bell Road and 11th Avenue Tuesday afternoon. Police recovered two of the stolen rifles.

Holmes said Miranda admitted to the Wal-Mart burglary and a burglary at a Sprouts grocery store near Bell Road and Third Street the same morning.

Miranda was booked into jail and charged with two counts of burglary, trafficking in stolen property and three counts of misconduct involving weapons/prohibited possessor.

Holmes said Miranda sold one of the rifles to two people in the parking lot of a hotel near Bell Road and 17th Avenue Friday afternoon. He sold the $1,497 rifle for $200.

The two buyers were booked into jail for theft -- control of stolen property. Holmes said one was a prohibited possessor due to a previous felony conviction and he was charged with misconduct involving weapons/prohibited possessor. The other suspect was booked for possession of narcotic drugs and drug paraphernalia.
