PHOENIX -- A Phoenix man has been sentenced to nearly 20 years in federal prison for robbing a Wells Fargo Bank in Yuma last September.
Jon Phillip Carstens, 47, pleaded guilty to armed bank robbery in February.
According to the plea agreement, Carstens entered the bank wearing a hat and scarf, which covered his face. He jumped over the counter to the teller's side while brandishing a .380-caliber pistol.
He grabbed money from the teller drawer, jumped back over the counter and left the bank. He then got into a Honda Civic and fled the area.
He was later apprehended in Imperial County, Calif.
Carstens had previously been convicted of bank robbery in Tampa, Fla.
Visiting U.S. District Judge Linda R. Reade sentenced Carstens to 235 months in federal prison on Wednesday.
