PHOENIX (AP) -- A Phoenix man accused in the death of his girlfriend's infant daughter has pleaded not guilty.
Larry Works III entered his plea Tuesday. His next scheduled court date is an April 10 initial pretrial conference.
The 20-year-old Works was
on suspicion of one count of first-degree murder and one count of child abuse.
He and his girlfriend transported the 18-month-old girl to Phoenix Baptist Hospital on Jan. 20.
Medical staff pronounced the child dead during treatment and notified Phoenix police.
Detectives say they examined the baby's body and observed what appeared to be two burn marks on her left leg, a bite mark on her abdomen, and bruising to her chest and abdomen.
Medical examiners say an autopsy determined the infant's injuries were caused by blunt force.
