PHOENIX (AP) -- Police have arrested a Phoenix man accused of fatally shooting a woman as part of a murder-suicide plan.
Police spokesman Steve Martos said Tuesday that 44-year-old Darren Helton was booked into jail this week after being treated for injuries he sustained in the incident.
Martos says Helton faces one count each of second-degree murder and being a prohibited possessor.
Authorities say Helton shot 29-year-old Elizabeth Smith on Friday at a Phoenix apartment and then attempted suicide.
The couple lived together at the apartment.
