PHOENIX -- A Phoenix man who is going through a divorce is accused of conspiring to kill his wife and dispose of her body.

Fred B. Knadler, 74, was booked for one count of conspiracy to commit murder. He is being held on a $2 million cash-only bond.

Police said Knadler, owner of Arizona Shower Door Inc., arranged a meeting with one of his key employees Saturday morning at which time he conspired to the killing of his wife and disposing of the evidence.

Sgt. Trent Crump with the Phoenix Police Department said Knadler is currently involved in a contentious divorce and his wife was demanding a large settlement.

During the recorded meeting, Knadler hired the employee to dig a hole in the desert to bury the victim's body and dispose of her vehicle so that it would never be located, according to Crump.

Knadler gave the employee a cash down payment for his participation in the murder and promised an additional $10,000 when the job was done along with an additional $10,000 each year he maintained his silence, Crump said.

The witness left the meeting and immediately reported what had happened to police.

Police served a search warrant at the suspect's house Tuesday night and the intended victim was found unharmed. Knadler was taken into custody without incident.

Crump said evidence supporting the murder conspiracy was found at the home.
