PHOENIX (AP) -- A rolling set of street closings is planned late Friday afternoon and early evening for a procession of fire vehicles as the body of a Phoenix firefighter killed in the line of duty is taken to a cemetery for burial after his funeral.
The procession for Firefighter Brad Harper begins at 3 p.m. after his funeral at Christ's Church of the Valley at 7007 West Happy Valley Road.
It will travel on State Route 101, Interstate 17 and local streets to the Greenwood/Memory Lawn Cemetery in central Phoenix.
The burial ceremony concludes at approximately 7 p.m.
Harper, 23, was fatally injured Saturday when he was caught between an ambulance and a firetruck as the two tried to pass each other on an extremely narrow road at the scene of a mulch fire.
"This doesn't happen to the public safety family here in Phoenix a lot. When it does we are really thrown back on our heels," Phoenix Fire Department Deputy Chief Chris Ketterer said that day.
Phoenix police Sgt. Tommy Thompson said Harper had been with the Phoenix Fire Department for two years. He’s married and his parents live in the Valley.
