PHOENIX -- A Valley motorist was arrested Friday morning after allegedly hitting a woman on a motorcycle and fleeing the scene.

Phoenix Police said James Edward Bellinger, 29, has been booked into the Maricopa County Jail on one count of aggravated DUI, one count of aggravated assault, and one count of hit and run with serious injuries.

Bellinger was reportedly making a turn at the intersection of Las Palmaritas and 19th Avenue when he pulled in front of the woman and caused their vehicles to collide.

Bellinger didn’t stop, but instead drove to the area of 2500 W. Northern where he got out of his vehicle and walked away.

A witness noticed that Bellinger appeared to be acting odd, and called police.

Officers quickly realized that Bellinger was the suspect from the collision, and took him into custody.

Police said at the time of his arrest Bellinger was showing clinical indications of drug use.

The woman who was hit by Bellinger was taken to a local hospital in extremely critical condition. She is not expected to survive.
