Map: Peoria toddler suffocates
PEORIA, Ariz. -- A 2-year-old Peoria boy died Monday in what police are calling a tragic accident.
The mother told police that she put her twin son and daughter down for a nap in the afternoon. When she returned to check on them, she found her son unresponsive.
The toddler was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators believe the handle on a plastic comforter bag got wrapped around the boy's neck.
"Mom puts him down and when she comes in somehow he was playing with the bag and had put himself in a position where the bag started strangling him," said Peoria police spokeswoman Amanda Jacinto.
Police said the toddler's death is a tragic accident.
A neighbor said the family recently moved into the home near Thunderbird Road and 83rd Avenue.
