AVONDALE, Ariz. – A Peoria High School teacher is accused of filming two female students in various states of undress and sexually assaulting them.

Werner Alcid Girard, 37, of Avondale, was arrested Wednesday and booked on several felony charges, including voyeurism, sexual exploitation of a minor, sexual conduct with a minor, sexual assault and unlawful viewing of a tape or recording of a person. Police said he turned himself in.

On May 26, Avondale police received a report that Girard had cellphone videos of two underage girls and had shown them to at least two 18-year-old males. One of them knew both of the girls.

According to the court documents, the videos were filmed in March and April when the girls were 15 and 16 years old. The victims told police they were at Girard's home in Avondale and he sexually assaulted them in his bedroom. One video showed Girard fondling the 15-year-old.

Girard lives at the home with his wife and children.

The victims told police that they did not consent to being touched or video recorded, according to the court records.

Girard was a drama teacher at Peoria High School and police said the victims had at least one class with him.

Both of the girls said they had trusted Girard, as did their parents, so neither thought anything would happen when they were at his house, according to the court paperwork.

"He was a drama teacher and so it was normal for him to have students come over to his house to practice on things," said Avondale Police Sgt. Brandon Busse.

School officials said Girard resigned from his teaching position late last month, but no complaints had been made against him in his seven years with the district.

"In his tenure, we did not have any reports from students, parents or community members of any type of sexual misconduct," said Danielle Airey with Peoria Unified School District.

The district sent a letter home to parents Thursday.

Avondale police are investigating whether there are any other victims.

"By putting his name out there, if somebody does know his name and if there are more victims out there, please don't hestitate to contact the Avondale Police Department," Busse said.

Girard is being held without bond and is due in court on June 12.
