PEORIA, Ariz. -- Sex crimes detectives from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office arrested a 20-year-old Peoria man accused of molesting a 10-year-old relative.
Anthony L. Auston was booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail on five counts of child molestation, two counts of sexual conduct with a minor under 15 and one count of sexual abuse.
The alleged molestation took place over the last five months while the suspect and victim lived in the same residence, according to MCSO spokesman Deputy Joaquin Enriquez. Several encounters reportedly occurred while the girl was asleep.
The child told her grandmother and she notified the sheriff's office.
Detectives took Auston into custody on Monday.
Enriquez said Auston told detectives that he did not threaten the child but encouraged her to keep quiet about the encounters.
