PEORIA, Ariz. -- A Peoria couple are hospitalized after they were assaulted inside their home near Peoria and 91st avenues.

Freddie and Lorena Castro, who are in their 50s, are both in serious condition at John C. Lincoln Hospital.

Police said they are questioning the couple's son, Victor Castro, as well as others.

Freddie Castro owns a roofing business and a worker who arrived at the couple's home Friday morning found them. Police said they were badly beaten.

A Peoria police lieutenant told 3TV reporter Stella Inger that the scene was pretty gruesome but did not elaborate.

A man who arrived at the scene said his sister, brother-in-law and nephew live in the house.

Peoria police spokesman Steve Hadley said it appears to be an isolated incident and there was no indication that residents in the area needed to be on alert.

Police are still investigating and details will be updated as they become available.
