PHOENIX -- A Chandler couple accused of leaving their severely disabled 8-year-old son locked in a bathroom have pleaded guilty to one count of attempted child abuse.

Vu Quang Tran, 36, and Siobhan Grogan, 35, entered their pleas Monday morning. They are scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 12.

Chandler police said a maintenance man found the boy after he stuffed clothes into the toilet and flooded the bathroom of the family's apartment in October 2012. No one else was home and the maintenance worker called police.

Tran and Grogan were arrested after going to the police station to bring their son clothes and special food.

The couple reportedly told police that they regularly left the boy alone so they could lead a normal life with their 5-year-old daughter. The parents said that they felt it was safe to leave him locked in the bathroom.
