PHOENIX -- A man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly hitting another man on the head with a hammer at a Phoenix bar.

Matthew Eugene Alcala, 30, reportedly confronted a 38-year-old man in the rear patio area of the Ice Pics Video Bar and asked for food and money.

Alcala was reportedly told by the victim that he was not supposed to be on the property. When the victim tried to force Alcala off the property, Alcala allegedly struck him with a hammer and fled the area.

Police were called to the bar near 31st Street and McDowell Road around 2:45 a.m. but were unable to locate the suspect. The victim and other bar employees told officers they believed they had seen the suspect at the bar before.

Alcala allegedly returned to the bar around 4 p.m. but again fled the area.

He was arrested near the bar around 8:30 p.m. and booked into jail on one count of aggravated assault, a class-four felony.

The victim was treated a local hospital for an apparent skull fracture. He is expected to recover.
