SURPRISE, Ariz. -- A Surprise man has been arrested after police say he forced his sons to drink alcohol and threw them into a swimming pool to teach them a lesson.
Kristopher Harvey, 32, faces two counts of child abuse charges.
Police were called to Harvey's home near Bell and Litchfield roads Monday night after a neighbor reported hearing a male screaming and crying in the backyard.
Officers said Harvey appeared to be highly intoxicated when they arrived.
Harvey's sons, ages 12 and 13, told police that their father made them drink alcohol and they were drunk, according to court documents.
The boys were visiting from out of state where they live with their grandmother. The boys told police that they drank some of their father's alcohol last week and his girlfriend found out.
When she told Harvey about it, he said he was going to teach the boys and lesson and started making them take shots of hard liquor, according to the paperwork. Harvey reportedly told his sons they were not allowed to go back into the home until they finished their shots and then threw them in the pool.
Police said both boys were highly intoxicated.
Child Protective Services was contacted and both children were transported to an area hospital for treatment.
Karen Edwards, 49, was issued a criminal citation for contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
