COTTONWOOD, Ariz. -- The Arizona Department of Public Safety is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Cottonwood.
At about 5:30 p.m. Thursday, police were called to the 1300 block of East Gila Street for a report of a suicidal man. Responding officers were told that he had a firearm.
Officers arrived and contacted Kodie Victor, 67.
Preliminary investigation indicates that about 10 minutes later, Victor pointed his firearm at the officers and Officer Scott Dever was forced to fire his weapon to defend himself, according to Sgt. Cody Savage with the Cottonwood Police Department.
Victor was transported to the Verde Valley Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Dever is an eight-year veteran police officer. He has been placed on administrative leave as per policy.
The Cottonwood Police Department is assisting DPS with the investigation.
