PHOENIX – Phoenix police said an argument over money led to a man shooting his roommate Sunday night.

Gary McGill, 47, is facing a second-degree murder charge after police said he fatally shot William Locke, 47.

Police responded to the shooting at around 7:15 p.m. and found Locke inside his vehicle unconscious and suffering from an apparent gunshot injury, according to Officer James Holmes.

Locke was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The investigation indicates that Locke was in the process of moving out of the home near 43rd Avenue and Cactus Road when he and McGill became involved in an altercation, which led to them pushing each other.

At one point, McGill secured a handgun and shot Locke, according to Holmes.

McGill remained at the scene but made no formal statements to police. He was arrested and booked into jail.

Holmes said the investigation, which is continuing, indicates the argument was over money.
