PHOENIX -- Optimus Prime, the leader of the Autobots, is on his way to Phoenix and you might be able to get a ride.

Prime has hooked up with ride-sharing service Uber to give Transformers fans the opportunity to roll out with one of the original robots in disguise.

He was in Dallas yesterday and is en route to Phoenix right now. He'll be here, ready to roll with you Thursday (June 19), 1 p.m.-7 p.m. From Phoenix, he'll move on to Los Angeles.

If you want to try and catch a ride, you need to download the Uber app and set up for an account. Once Optimus Prime is in town, you'll make contact via the app.

  • Open the app and select Autobots option
  • Tap "Set pickup location"
  • Tap "Roll out!"

Optimus Prime is only one Autobot, so he's going to be very busy during his time here in the Valley of the Sun. Connecting with him will be difficult, but the folks at Uber suggest you keep trying.

"If you're lucky enough to make contact with Optimus, he’ll roll out to your location for a 15-minute experience," according to the Uber blog.

The rides are free, but you have to "catch Optimus in-between missions," according to @Uber_Phx, also known as Gabe, Uber's Phoenix community manager.

Those missions, naturally are highly classified, @Uber_Phx was determined to protect the secrets, saying only that Prime's missions are "to make people happy!"

Before rolling out on his missions and to meet fans, Optimus Prime will be at CityScape on Central Avenue 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Optimus Prime's "Roll Out With the Transformers" tour leads up to the opening of his new movie, "Transformers: Age of Extinction," on June 27.

Prime's alternate mode in the new movie, the fourth in the live-action series, is a blue and red Western Star 4900 Phantom Custom semi-trailer truck.

Founded in 2009, Uber is available in more than 70 major cities in nearly 40 countries.
